Adobe InDesign filter: basic formatting shown in memoQ is not present in the exported document
Description:
If you set a word to bold or italic in a document and then export it, you will see that the changes have reverted back to their original, source formatting.
If the source text has words in italic, they are also exported without formatting, even copying the tags won't help.
Explanation:
MemoQ shows the text formatting (bold, italic, underline) imported from .idml files just as a guidance to the user. Changing any text format from memoQ (as bold, italic, underline) will not appear so in the exported file. If there is formatting on the text memoQ uses inline tags for that. If a segment text has just one formatting, the inline tags will be hidden in the background like:
If there is more than one formatting on a segment(for an InDesign row) the tags will appear like:
By surrounding a segments text or text part with an uf tag (copied from another segment) the formatting which this tag holds will be applied to the text at export and this formatting will appear in the exported file for the surrounded text.
This decision was made because memoQ does not know which fonts in which format (bold, italic, semibold, …) in InDesign exist (there are fonts which have just regular format. We cannot apply bold or italic on those fonts…).
