Translating DWG and DXF files
You wish to translate DWG and DXF files with memoQ.
• If your client does have AutoCAD, then he could use the small "Trans" plugin, which creates an RTF file you can easily process with memoQ:

The limitation though is that it doesn't support double-byte languages nor Unicode.
• To be able to translate DWG files, you will need to buy TranslateCAD ($29) a tool which can convert between AutoCAD’s DXF (Drawing Interchange Format or Drawing Exchange Format) and a text format readable by memoQ. You can download TranslateCAD from http://www.translationtospanish.com/cad/documentation.htm.
Before starting translation, you also need to set the code page for non-Unicode programs to the target language you want to translate into (e.g. Russian). To do this on Windows 7, type „regional” into the Start menu, and click the “Change the date, time or number format” option. In the appearing dialog, click Administrative, and click the “Change system locale” button. You will need to restart your machine.
To translate the text within a DWG file, follow these steps:
- Open the DWG file with AutoCAD.
- From the Autocad menu, choose Save As.
- In the Save As dialog, choose the “AutoCAD 2013 DXF” option.
- Start TranslateCAD.
- In the left-hand folder structure, navigate to the folder you have your DXF document in.
- If you want to save the working document to the same folder, click “Same path” on the right-hand side of TranslateCAD.
- On the left half, click “Extract Text !”.
- There will be a text file with “-trans1” appended to the document’s name (so for example if you started with drawing .dxf, TranslateCAD will create drawing-trans1.txt).
- Open memoQ and create your project if you haven’t done so.
- Import the document ending in “-trans1.txt” (note: do NOT import the document ending in “-trans2.txt”).
- You will need to translate every second line.
- Once you are done with translating, export the document from memoQ with the default settings (it will overwrite the file).
- Open the exported document in Notepad, choose Save As, and save the document as a Unicode file. (It appears that exporting as Unicode directly from memoQ doesn’t always work well.)
- In TranslateCAD, choose the translated document and click “Re-Construct DXF”.
- You can now open the DXF file in AutoCAD and save as a DWG file.
This software might be not working with a certain version of AutoCAD.
