Importing Multiterm XML term bases into memoQ term bases
Description:
When moving from SDL Trados to memoQ, many users want to move their terminology databases from Multiterm to memoQ. A flawless migration is only possible for users who are using QTerm, because only QTerm supports customizable term base definitions. QTerm is a browser-based terminology management solution available for server customers. It has a direct Multiterm XML import filter, so it can read Multiterm XML data without any additional preparation. memoQ's terminology is meant for translators, not terminologists, and as a result, data entry is easy and straightforward, but this comes at the price of customisability. However, it is still possible to take over the actual terms and their translations - only the metadata will be lost.
How to:
1. Export your MultiTerm term base as MultiTerm XML or TBX. You can use Multiterm Convert to convert your databases to MultiTerm XML, or in SDL MultiTerm, click the Catalog button on the bottom of the Navigation pane, and then click the Export icon below the term base name. Right-click on the Default export definition option, and select Process.
2. Create a new term base in memoQ. Import the MultiTerm file into memoQ.
