The Google Translate API is not free, v1.0 used to be free, but it is discontinued since December 2011, the price is 20 USD per Million translated characters.
If you already have a Google Translation v2.0 subscription but are wondering how to use it with memoQ, jump directly to Step 7.
Getting started with Google Translate API v2.0 in memoQ 6 and later:
Note: The below steps to acquire a key may be subject to change by the provider.
Step 1: Log in with your Google account (Gmail works fine).
Step 2: Go to https://developers.google.com/ and click the API Console link.
Step 3: If you have not yet created a project, click the create a project.
Step 4: Scroll down to the Translate API service, and click the On button to turn the service on (you must agree to the terms).
Step 5: You now need to enter your billing information: go to Billing in the left side navigation bar. Once there, click the Enable billing link.
Step 6: Enter your billing information and await a confirmation e-mail by Google.
Once you have received the e-mail, go back to the API Console, and click
on the left side navigation bar.
Step 8: You will find on the API Access page your API key, copy this key.
Open memoQ, go to Tools > Options > Machine Translation.
Step 10: Navigate to the Google MT plugin. Click the Options button,and paste the copied key in the Key for API v2.0 field, leave the Referer at default value. Check the Enable plugin check box. Click OK to close the Machine Translation dialog.
Step 11: If you have entered a valid billing information you should now begin receiving hits in your Translation results pane.
Note: You are charged based on your usage of the API.
