Moving memoQ local resources to another computer
If you use memoQ on 2 different computers, or if you purchased a new computer, you may want to move resources to the other computer, without moving all your projects. You have several options to do this.
A. To move just one or two resources
Use exchange formats. Here is how to do this:
Translation Memories
1. On the old computer, open memoQ, go to the Resource Console. Select the TM you wish to use on the other computer.
2. Click the Export to TMX link.
3. Copy this TMX file to the new computer.
4. In memoQ on your new computer, go to the Resource Console. In the Translation memories pane, click the Create new link. Specify the source and target language, navigate to the TMX file and import the file.
Term bases
1. On the old computer, open memoQ, go to the Resource Console. Select the term base you wish to use on the other computer.
2. Click the Export to CSV link.
3. Copy this CSV file to the new computer.
4. In memoQ on your new computer, go to the Resource Console. In the Term bases pane, click the Create new link. In the Open dialog, navigate to the CSV file and import the file.
Other resources ;(e.g. segmentation rules or QA settings)
1. Export the resource from the Resource Console ;to ;.mqres files (except for Muses: they have an ;.mqm file extension). ;Then:
2. Copy the file to your new computer.
3. On your new computer, go to the Resource Console, choose the resource category (e.g. QA settings), and click the Import link.
4. Browse to the .mqres file, and import the resource.
B. To move many resources of the same kind
Move resource folders. Here is how to do this (using Translation Memories as example):
1. On your old computer, find the folder where you store your translation memories. Normally, it is ;C:\ProgramData\MemoQ\Translation Memories.
If you do not find your resources: ;Open memoQ. ;In the top left corner, click the ;Options icon. In the Options window, on the left, click Locations. Here you find the folder paths to your projects and resources.
2. In the Translation Memories folder, select the TM folders you want to move (hold down Ctrl and click all the TM folders you want). Zip them, and copy this ;zip to your new computer.
3. On your new computer, find the folder where you store your translation memories. Unzip the TMs here.
4. Open memoQ. ;Go to the Resource Console. In the Translation Memories pane, click the Register local link.
5. In the Open dialog, navigate to your TM folders, open one, and double click the .mtm file. You now have registered your local TM on your new computer and now you can use the TM on your new computer.
6. Repeat Step 5 for each TM you copied from the old computer.
C. To move many resources of different kinds
Use memoQ's project backup feature.
1. Create a new project. If you are working in more than one language pair, create a project for each.
2. Open the project.
3. On the left, click Translation memories. Check the check boxes of the TMs you want to move.
4. Repeat Step 3 for all Term bases, LiveDocs corpora, and Muses you want to move.
5. On the left, click Settings. ;Click each setting type in the top bar, and check the check boxes of ;the resources you want to move.
There are resource types (e.g., TM settings) of which a project can only have one. If you want to move more than one of these, add one to the project, and export the others (see Section A above).
6. Close the Project home tab.
7. On the Dashboard, select the project.
8. On the Project ribbon, click the Backup button.
9. Follow Section B in the article about moving local memoQ projects.
